It will be in the recollection of our readers that on Whit Sunday of last year collections were made in all the churches of this Diocese for promating the spiritual welfare of the inhabitants on the Bush; and that the amount so collected, viz. £115 7s. 10d. was placed at the disposal of the Committee of the Diocesan Society. By a resolution of that Committee it was determined to appropriate te money to the maintenance of a Missionary clergyman, who should itinerate trough the Bush, and carry out minstrations of the Word and Sacraments to those distant parts of the province, where they have been hitherto unknown.
As yet, however, it has been impossible to carry out this resolution from the want of a suitable clergyman who could be spared for the purpose. We are happy now to state that Mr. John Herbert Gregory from Sydney, is to be ordained, if God permit, on Trinity Sunday, for this special object, and it is in contemplation to send with him a lay assistant with a supply of Bibles, Books of Common Prayer, Hymn Books, and other religious publications, for the benefit of the people. The Committee of the Diocesan Society have appointed three of their number to provide the necessary outfit, and to make all the requisite arrangements for carrying out the plan.
There will also be collections on Whit Sunday for defraying the expense, which may be incurred.
